Our Story

Removing Barriers

Ellen Eaton launched LocoMotion Accessibility Consulting with the primary goal of providing accessibility services to residents and businesses. Removing barriers is the goal.

Her lived experience comes from being diagnosed with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and using a walker. She couldn't have imagined how her life would change moving to the Sunshine Coast.

HandyDART in Vancouver, for example, was easy and always available. Not on the Sunshine Coast. She learned a great deal about fighting here — fighting to regain her life, fighting for transportation that is available when she needs it; fighting to be able to access a hotel room with a bathroom, bed, and shower she can use; fighting for a restaurant with a ramp and disabled parking spots; fighting for a ferry that is accessible so she can go to Vancouver on her own; fighting for employment where the offices are in buildings with elevators — and on it goes.

Why It Matters

Access is good business

LocoMotion is driven to make changes to the critical market of hotels and the hospitality group. This means having venues with features so that the disabled can use these venues, enjoy their lives with friends and families. It also means having access to meetings and conference rooms for work.

LocoMotion engages with contractors, builders and the public sector to work with them to ensure accessibility is part of their building strategy and that individuals are being cared for through accessible and affordable suites. Their needs cannot be forgotten.
